Effectively populated from its foundation in 1565, Rio de Janeiro became the main commercial port of Colonial Brazil, becoming the seat of the Empire and of the Republic until 1960, when the Federal District was moved to Brasília.

The state of São Paulo was first colonized by Martim Afonso de Souza, in 1532, when the vila of São Vicente was founded. In 1554, the Jesuits moved to the highland and Manuel da Nóbrega and José de Anchieta established the seat of Captaincy of São Vicente, later known as São Paulo. From there, the "flags" departed: pioneering expeditions that headed towards the South, reaching Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, culminating in the discovery of gold in Minas Gerais, in 1693.

The state of Minas Gerais is mountainous iron and green valleys, carved by streams. Streams that once hid gold. The gold that made colonial villages with their colorful houses and hillsides. Santa Catarina has a 400 km beach covered coast, but throughout its territory the influence of German and Austrian colonization with its half-timbered architecture, gardens, gastronomy, handicrafts and textile industry blends with the scenery and climate of the origins of its first inhabitants. Its local festivals have conquered the national calendar.

Located in the central Brazilian Plateau, between table-top mountains, canyons, depressions and valleys. The territory of Goiás, is rich in geomorphologic landscapes with ancient sedimentary crystalline lands, plateaus carved by erosion creating striking contrasts of singular beauty.

The first place trodden by Portuguese discoverers, in 1500, Bahia holds vestiges of its past struggles and glories, that cross the sugar cane and cocoa cycles and transform the state today into a colorful tapestry where the striking influence of African slaves is also appreciated through its exuberant gastronomy.

Rio Grande do Norte is known for the beauty of beaches such as Forte, Pipa, Genipabu and Redinha, with crystal clear waters, dunes and reefs. Its cultural wealth is historical. Taking just the city of Natal: it was a refuge for French privateers and Dutch pirates, a destination for European Jews fleeing religious persecution, and an American military base during World War II. There the Portuguese built the Fortaleza dos Reis Magos, at the mouth of the Potengi River, in the 17th century.

The history of Fortaleza, capital of Ceará, is largely fused with the history of the state, land of Tupi Indians of various denominations. The effective occupation of the territory of Ceará began in 1603 with the “flag” of Pero Coelho de Souza who founded the Fort of São Tiago, in Barra do Ceará, in Fortaleza.
